| Background Information | Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions that occur together, including increased blood pressure, elevated insulin levels, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol levels.
Key features of metabolic syndrome include insulin resistance, glucose intolerance, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and central obesity—all of which are risk factors for atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease, and even premature death.

| Application | The Human Metabolic Hormone Panel, using the Luminex xMAP technology, enables the simultaneous analysis of 13 protein biomarkers in human serum, plasma and cell/tissue culture samples. |

| Application Notes | • There are 15 biomarkers to choose from in this kit. However, this is a 13-plex kit since the following analytes cannot be run simultaneously: Amylin (Active) & Amylin (Total); GLP-1 (Active) & GLP-1 (Total). • The following analytes require the addition of protease inhibitors to the serum or plasma samples (see sample collection and storage section in the protocol for details): GLP-1 (DPPIV inhibitor); Amylin (protease inhibitor cocktail); Glucagon (Aprotinin); Ghrelin (Active) (serine protease inhibitor). • The protocol recommends serum or plasma samples be run neat. Tissue culture samples may be run neat or may require a dilution with an appropriate control medium. • For optimal sensitivity, use an overnight (16 - 18 hour) incubation. • Each well requires 25 uL of sample, standard or control. |
