| Background Information | Acute phase proteins are a class of proteins whose circulating concentrations increase (positive acute phase proteins) or decrease (negative acute phase proteins) in response to inflammation. This response is called the acute phase reaction (also called acute phase response). In recent years several new acute phase proteins have been identified and some of these acute phase proteins are also secreted from adipose tissue. Panel 2 includes Adipsin (Complement Factor D), Alpha-1 Acid Glycoprotein (AGP), C-Reactive Protein (CRP), Haptoglobin (HPTGN), Alpha-2 Macroglobulin (A2M) and Serum Amyloid Protein/Pentraxin-2 (SAP). |
